IN THE new year, Kelly "The Virgin" Khumalo will be a mother. According to two people very close to her, the controversial musician is four months pregnant a confirmation of rumours that have been doing the rounds for some time.

This will be her first child and our sources say Khumalo is ecstatic.

Rumours about her pregnancy began during the Tropika competition in Zanzibar in September.

During the Chevrolet and Metro FM Cruze eKasi summer entertainment national tours last month, it was obvious that she had put on weight.

But the father of her unborn child remains a mystery, though several sources have said he is a well known showbiz man - and married. They said the two had been having an affair in recent months.

Last month, when Sowetan asked her about the pregnancy, Khumalo vehemently denied the reports. She said then that it was "the most ridiculous thing" she had ever been asked by a journalist.

"She has always wanted a family and a baby but when her relationship with Prosper (Mkwaiwa) did not work out she felt her time was running out," a friend said yesterday.

"Kelly does not like talking about her pregnancy with just anyone because of her history with the media."

Another source said Khumalo was glowing.

"She is really looking forward to being a mom," said another pal.

But they both refused to comment on the identity of the father. Khumalo and Mkwaiwa broke up after he allegedly cheated on her with an 18-year-old waitress from Witbank. She moved out of their Rosebank home and got her own place in Bryanston. Khumalo did not return calls or answer SMSes left on her phone yesterday.

Her manager, Bonsai Shongwe, could not confirm or deny Kelly's pregnancy and said the issue was beyond his brief.

"I only talk about business-related issues," he said, laughing.
