THE star continues to shine for television and stage actress Zandile Msutwana.

THE star continues to shine for television and stage actress Zandile Msutwana.

Msutwana, who currently portrays Akua Yenana, a leading role in the SABC1 drama series Society, has landed a new role in the theatre play, The Pen.

The Pen is scheduled to run at the Market Theatre in Newtown from January 18 to February 21.

Written by Monde Mayephu and directed by Mpho Molepo, the show also features stars such as Sello Maake kaNcube and Mmabatho Mogomotsi.

The Pen tells the story of a young playwright, Sipho, who is in the throes of writing a new play. He is struck by writer's block and is lured into a seductive journey with Thandi. The boundaries between fantasy and reality become blurred as he begins to live in an increasingly illusionary world dominated by his sexy, assertive writing goddess.

The story gets interesting as his girlfriend Pinky, innocently drawn into his passionate internal world, starts to suffer as she comes to understand the depths of Sipho's passion for Thandi. This is a tale about the difficulties of writing and of star-crossed lovers, told with great drive.

The Eastern Cape-born actress boasts a diploma in speech and drama from the University of Cape Town. She has done theatre shows such as Regan in King Lear, Matilda in The Suit, Aida in On The Brink, Chorus in Trojan Women, Ingalo, Madiba Magic, A Love Story and Tall Horse.

She also plays the leading role in the local film White Wedding in which she acts alongside Kenneth Nkosi and Rapulana Seiphemo.
