Captain Tony Modise said that a teenage boy, 17, was arrested for attempted murder and rape after a man came across his sister being assaulted and raped.

The brother of the woman, 26, was walking at 1.30am on Saturday when he saw a man running away from a park. "He saw another suspect raping the victim."

The brother went to the victim who turned out to be his sister who had sustained serious wounds on the head.

She is in hospital in a serious but stable condition. The 17-year-old will appear in court soon.

l A man, 25, has been arrested after a woman was throttled and raped on a soccer field.

"Late on Christmas Eve a woman, aged 21, was attending a party at a community hall. The suspect indicated that he wanted to talk outside the hall as the music was too loud.

"They walked out and a few metres from the hall the suspect throttled the victim and forced her to a nearby soccer field," Modise said.

The man then raped the woman before fleeing . He was later arrested and will appear in court soon.

l A man has been arrested after allegedly killing another after the two apparently got into a fight on Christmas Eve over a "girlfriend".

The one man, 26, pulled out a knife and tried to stab the other, 22, who ran away. He later returned and stabbed and killed the 26-year-old. - Sapa
