Family killing: 2 more held

TWO more suspects were arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of five Khoza family members and relatives in Lethabong near Rustenburg in North West.

Spokesperson for the department of public safety Lesiba Kgwele said the suspects were linked to the crime throughfingerprints.

Five suspects are now in custody for allegedly killing businesswoman Maria Khoza, 46, her two sons, aged 18 and 12, their cousin, aged 14, and relative Daniel Karfhia, 46.

Three men were arrested on Sunday after community members tipped off the police about a house they suspected was connected to the alleged killers.

Two men were arrested at the house and police also found suspected items stolen from Khoza's house. The third man was arrested in the same area.

Kgwele said the family was attacked between last Wednesday night and Christmas morning.

The killers stole the family's Nissan Navara, which was abandoned in Brits, and an electrical appliances.

"Neighbours in Vula section became worried when Khoza did not answer her cellphone and was not responding to door knocks on Christmas Day," said Kgwele.

"They became suspicious when they saw blood in her garage and called police, who broke down the door and found the bodies."

The five suspects are expected to appear in the Rustenburg magistrate's court today on charges of murder and robbery.

North West Premier Maureen Modiselle said: "This is an example of the successes our police can score if our communities provide them with information."

Meanwhile, Sapa reports that two men were arrested for the murder of a three-year-old girl, whose body was found mutilated in Thabong, Welkom, at the weekend.

Onele Galata was snatched on Christmas Day. Police found her body with multiple stab wounds, and her genitals removed.
