A THIRD man has been arrested as an accomplice in an armed robbery at the Kenilworth Shopping Centre in Cape Town, police said yesterday.

Inspector November Filander said Hawks investigators arrested the man on Tuesday in Philippi East.

"He allegedly lent his licensed firearm to the suspects knowing that they intended to commit the armed robbery."

The firearm used in the robbery was seized by police after a shootout in Repulse Road, Athlone, with another man who had been arrested.

The 21-year-old accomplice and a 36-year-old man who was arrested on Monday were due to appear in court yesterday.

The man was arrested after he went to the Guguletu police station on Monday to report he had been robbed of his firearm on Sunday. - Sapa
