Controversial former health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang died on 16 December after suffering liver transplant complications.

Unfortunately she will be best remembered for skirting around the HIV-Aids issue while the pandemic ravaged the country.

The King of Pop Michael Jackson died at the age of 50 on June 25. Jackson's Thriller, is one of the world's best-selling albums with more than 70million copies sold.

Limpopo's oldest citizen died. Koko Moloko Temo, who would have turned 135 on July 4, died in her sleep on June 2.

Actress Brittany Murphy, who co-starred in such films as Clueless and Girl, Interrupted, died after suffering cardiac arrest in her bathroom on December 20.

Minister of communications Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri died of natural causes on April 6.

Skosana, 54, died after a short illness. He retired in 1999 with an impressive CV of 33 wins (13 KOs) and five defeats.

Patrick Swayze, best known for his starring roles in Dirty Dancing and Ghost, died of pancreatic cancer on September 14.

AmaZulu player Jan Sello died in a car accident on August 10.

Former Selimathunzi presenter Brown Matsime passed away in June 9 from an undisclosed illness.

Boyzone singer Stephen Gately, 33, died on October 10 of natural causes due to fluid on the lungs while on holiday in Majorca.

Acting Cape high court judge Patrick Ntobeko Maqubela was found dead on June 7.

Police initially said he had died of a suspected heart attack. A week later they announced they were investigating a murder. The investigation is still under way.

Gospel musician Winnie Mmadi collapsed and tragically died minutes before a scheduled performance during the 16 Days of Activism Against Abuse of Women and Children in November 28.
