A man was killed while crossing a railway line in Simonstown, near Cape Town, Western Cape paramedics said.

ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said the man, in his late 20s, was declared dead on the scene yesterday after being run over by a train.

"His body was torn into two halves. One half is still under the train," a statement said.

The circumstances around the accident were still unclear as the man was alone at the time. The railway line was still closed at around 9am while an investigation was under way at the scene. - Sapa
