Durban jokers lead the pack at Comedy Night

IT LOOKS as if New Year's Eve will be alive with laughter thanks to Lindelani Mkhize Entertainment, which is hosting the first Durban Comedy Night at the city's International Convention Centre on December 30 at 8pm.

IT LOOKS as if New Year's Eve will be alive with laughter thanks to Lindelani Mkhize Entertainment, which is hosting the first Durban Comedy Night at the city's International Convention Centre on December 30 at 8pm.

The good news is that the show is not a once-off. After the new year event, entertainment guru Lindelani Mkhize will drive the process every month, unearthing would-be poets in Banana City. After discovering many musicians through the evergreen Joyous Celebration, Mkhize hopes to do the same with poets.

The first instalment will feature kings and queens of comedy such as Eugene; Felix Hlophe, Durban's most popular comedian; Loyiso Gola; Siya B; Celeste Ntuli, who was in the top three of the second So You Think You're Funny season; Sne Mkhize and Robby Collins. New kid on the block Sifiso Nene, who made his debut as the winner of Durban's first season of So You Think You're Funny, will also feature at the Comedy Night.

He is Mzansi's funniest comedian and won a whopping 100000 and a 12-month contract in David Kau's show. He beat thousands of hopefuls from across the country.

So with Celeste and Sifiso in the opening instalment, it shows that KwaZulu-Natal rules in the comedy arena. Those attending the event will be left in stitches by the mixture of experienced and up-and-coming comedians.

Mkhize says: "It's about time that Durban has its own comedy nights. There's a lot of entertainment in the city but the missing link has always been comedy."

Tickets cost between R160 and R250.
