The names of the dead have been withheld until their relatives have been informed.

Five heavily armed men brandishing R5 assault rifles arrived at the Shabalala Store taxi rank and opened fire, killing the three.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for transport, community safety and liaison Willies Mchunu condemned the attack, describing it as a "barbaric and cowardly act".
