Safa targets Amajita duo for Bafana camp

SAFA will secure the release of two rising stars, Kermit Erasmus and Daylon Claasen, to attend the 2010 Fifa World Cup training camp from January 15 to 28.

SAFA will secure the release of two rising stars, Kermit Erasmus and Daylon Claasen, to attend the 2010 Fifa World Cup training camp from January 15 to 28.

The camp, which takes place in Durban, has been organised by coach Carlos Alberto Parreira exclusively for locally based players.

The Holland-based duo were selected for the games against Japan and Jamaica but did not get a chance to play. Wits goalkeeper Darren Keet is also expected to join the camp. Parreira is also likely to call Ajax Cape Town player Thulani Serero.

Serero, Claasen and Erasmus graduated to Amajita together from Majimbos. They impressed Parreira during the World Under-20 Junior Championship in Egypt in November.

"We are negotiating for the release of Daylon and Kermit because the camp does not fall within the Fifa international calender," said Bafana Bafana manager Sipho Nkumane.

"You will recall that the camps in November where we played Jamaica and Japan were mainly for foreign-based players, that is why we also had players like Benni McCarthy back.

"The camp in Durban will be for the guys plying their trade here at home. Impressive players will form part of the team to the camps in Brazil and Germany.

"We will also play two warm-up matches in Durban against Southern African teams. We are talking to five and will make an announcement once the deal has been signed," he said.
