Amajita invited to Mercedes Junior Cup

AMAJITA have been invited to take part in the 20th Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup in Germany from January 5 and 6.

AMAJITA have been invited to take part in the 20th Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup in Germany from January 5 and 6.

Oliver Bierhoff, German national team manager and brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz, said the tournament comprises eight nations representing different styles of football.

"They all offer top-class quality," he said. It will be Amajita's first campaign in this tournament.

The invite comes after their failure to defend the Metropolitan Youth Championship title against Zambia, who won the final 1-0 at Dobsonville Stadium.

The organisers of the Mercedez-Benz Cup are delighted that 2010 host South Africa is taking part.

Players who will represent South Africa in Germany include Tlou Molekwane, Lynch Pule, Mkhanyiseli Siwahla, Tumelo Tlou and Tumelo Nhlapo.

Amajita are in Group B. They have been drawn with Holland's most successful soccer academy, AZ Alkamaar, Borussia Dortmund (Germany) and Karlsruher SC (Germany).

Group A comprises Zenit St Petersburg (Russia), Galatasaray Istanbul (Turkey), Bayer 04 Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart (both from Germany).

Safa technical director Serame "Rhee" Letsoaka, a former Amajita coach, said the invite was an honour.

"The tournament is well organised, I've been there. We have many youngsters who have benefited."
