WITH their weekend opponents suitably handled, the pressure is again on for Tshwane rivals SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The two giants tackle each other tomorrow at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria.
Kickoff is at 7.30.
United heaved a sigh of relief on Saturday evening after giving Mpumalanga Black Aces a comprehensive 3-0 beating, in the process ensuring that Sundowns - their nearest challengers - were still six points behind them on the log table.
This Absa Premiership title race is yet another factor bolstering the rivalry of the Tshwane derby.
For a while, after dropping three points at Lamontville Golden Arrows, Gavin Hunt's charges were not looking as invincible as they have been for the better part of the season.
But three goals from Anthony Laffor, Glen Salmon and Jabu Maluleke showcased the grit abundant in the team.
Hunt said: "The last two teams that won the championship have been good, but none possessed the bravery of this one.
"I am delighted by how they bounced back from the midweek loss but then, again, that is exactly what I expected."
But what of the derby?
"It is a big one, but then every game is big at this stage. I'm not scared of Sundowns. We are just concerned about ourselves.
"They are a big team with some of the best players in the country. They have just signed someone for big money (referring to Franklin Cale from Ajax Cape Town), so of course we are concerned. But, we have got our pride to play for," said Hunt.
To their credit, United have scored 45 goals, 11 more than Downs - a statistic that might be the decider if the title race goes to the wire, as it did last season.
l United spokesperson David Sikhosana has announced that fans who bought tickets for the rained-out match two weeks ago should exchange them for new ones where they had bought them.
lThami Nqolobe reports that title-chasing Santos were happy to take a point in their Absa Premiership league encounter with Orlando Pirates at Athlone Stadium, Cape Town, on Friday night.
