Official funeral on the cards

FORMER health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang will be honoured with an official funeral when she is laid to rest, a family spokesperson said yesterday.

FORMER health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang will be honoured with an official funeral when she is laid to rest, a family spokesperson said yesterday.

"It's going to be a special official funeral," said her son-in-law Martin Kingston, adding that the details were still being finalised.

The Presidency is reported to be still dealing with the protocol involved, including whether national flags will be flown at half-mast in her honour.

There are various categories that set out the protocol at funerals for present and past heads of state and government ministers.

Kingston said the minister's family was "bearing up" and had received many messages of sympathy since her death in Johannesburg on Wednesday. - Sapa
