A 16-YEAR-OLD boy accused of hijacking a woman and throwing her off a bridge was denied bail by the Durban magistrate's court.
"The accused is facing serious charges. The state has a very strong case against him," magistrate Vanitha Armu said on Tuesday.
The boy, who cannot be named as he is a minor, is accused of robbing Durban teacher Kavisha Seevnarian before throwing her off the Mkomazi River bridge on November 13.
Armu said the fact that Seevnarian survived the attack and 60m drop was due to "divine intervention", which also spared the boy a murder charge.
She suffered a smashed spine and fractured pelvis.
The teenager's accomplices, Wandile Nsibande, 20, and Sibusiso Dlamini were sentenced in November after they pleaded guilty to charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances and kidnapping.
Nsibande was given 25 years and Dlamini 40 years behind bars.
Police are still looking for a fourth suspect. The boy is charged with robbery, kidnapping and attempted murder.
