SA in Cosafa final

SOUTH Africa will fight it out against Zambia in the final of the Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 championship at Dobsonville Stadium tomorrow

SOUTH Africa will fight it out against Zambia in the final of the Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 championship at Dobsonville Stadium tomorrow

This after defeating Botswana 3-0 at Eldorado Park yesterday.

The game was not a free-flowing spectacle but South Africa managed to pull through.

The South Africans were widely tipped to defend their title and they made their intentions clear as early as the 14th minute when captain Masibusane Zongo's free kick hit the woodwork.

Two minutes later, the hosts nearly took the lead but Collen Zulu's dipping shot was parried over the bar by Basimanebotlhe Moilwa.

The South Africans finally found the back of the net on the stroke of half time when Tshepo Gumede's strike hit the back of the net.

The second half started with Botswana searching for an equaliser but they never really troubled the South Africans. They resorted to rough play and Isaac Paeye was given a red card in the 71st minute after his foul on Khumbulani Mdluli.

His dismissal opened up the visitors at the back and Amajita took full advantage of the situation and eight minutes later Thulani Ngcepe cut in from the left and let rip to put them 2-0 up.

Keagan Buchanan put the final nail in Botswana's coffin when he shot from the edge of the box to give South Africa a well deserved 3-0 win.

Zambia reached the final after also walloping Madagascar 3-0.
