Last week Thursday Gauteng police reported that 13 people, including children, had drowned in the province since Monday.
Yesterday a six-year-old boy was in a serious condition after nearly drowning at the Ballito Resort in KwaZulu-Natal, paramedics said.
The child had been swimming in the hotel's pool.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said: "He was pulled out of the water by others when they noticed him at the bottom of the pool.
"The child was initially motionless and unresponsive when medics started their resuscitation attempt. His level of consciousness increased and he was stabilised before being transported to hospital," Wicks said.
On Friday a five-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool in Klerksdorp, North West.
The child's mother was cleaning her employer's home when the incident took place, Superintendent Lesego Metsi said.
When she went outside, the boy was lying at the bottom of the pool and was certified dead on the scene.
On Thursday, Netcare paramedics were called to a scene of a drowning in Vereeniging.
A 43-year-old man had slipped and fallen into the water. He was declared dead on the scene.
A mother saved the life of a two-year-old boy in Vanderbijlpark on Thursday.
She went searching for the child and found him floating in the pool. She pulled him out and resuscitated him before paramedics arrived.
