THE league title is not won yet, says SuperSport United captain Bongani Khumalo.

He was speaking after Matsatsantsa a Pitori consolidated their top position on the Absa Premiership table with a 3-0 victory over relegation candidate Jomo Cosmos at Loftus on Saturday.

Khumalo said they would not get carried away despite a winning streak but vowed that they would maintain momentum.

United are sitting pretty at the summit of the log with 44 points from 21 games.

"We do not want to talk too much about the league because we still have a long way to go.

"Instead, we must just stay focused and make sure we win our remaining matches," said Khumalo. "Now our focus is on the next game away to (Lamontville) Golden Arrows in Durban on Wednesday."

Cosmos boss Jomo Sono is still confident that his team will remain in the elite league at the end of the season despite being rooted to the table with 14 points from 22 games.

"We had United on the back foot in the first half and should have punished them. But lack of killer instinct and not following instructions in the second half largely contributed to their downfall," Sono said.

He revealed that they had signed former Thanda Royal Zulu striker Norman Smith to add firepower upfront.

Cosmos dominated the opening of the game and United's dangerous duo of Anthony Laffor and Glen Salmon were closed down by Cosmos defenders Keamogotse Wolff and Ousmane Berthe.

United showed poise in the second half and defender Morgan Gould put them ahead with a fine header in the 51st minute after a well-taken Daine Klate corner.

Substitute Dario Monteiro made it 2-0 in the 70th minute and Brent Carelse scored the third in the 77th minute.

Meanwhile, Bidvest Wits and Moroka Swallows played to a goalless draw at Milpark Stadium.
