10-man Celtic hold Amakhosi

EVEN after playing most of the match against 10 men, Kaizer Chiefs failed to make use of their numerical advantage when they played to a 1-all draw with Bloemfontein Celtic in an Absa Premiership match at Super Stadium on Saturday night.

Celtic were reduced to 10 men when Johannes Motlhaping was sent off for a tackle from behind on Kaizer Motaung Jnr in the 15th minute.

Amakhosi, clad in their new jersey to commemorate their 40th anniversary, found it particularly difficult to deal with Celtic winger Tlou Segolela and had to resort to pushing to stop him.

Celtic scored first, captain Thabo Nthethe netting from a scramble in the 22nd minute. Chiefs nearly got the equaliser two minutes later but Jose Torrealba's strike hit the woodwork.

The home side finally managed to get an equaliser when pint-sized midfielder Gerald Sibeko scored from a Jimmy Tau cross in the 36th minute.

Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic said there was nothing more his charges could do.

"I am not disappointed. We played good soccer and wanted to win but sometimes it's impossible to score. I'm satisfied with how we played," Vemezovic said.

Celtic's coach Owen da Gama said: "I think tactically we were spot on. To come here and do so well against a team that has scored nine goals in their last three matches was remarkable."
