Mbeki made Aids scapegoat

By unknown | Dec 09, 2009 | COMMENTS [ 0 ]

THE Jacob Zuma administration's "new approach to HIV and Aids" is the height of hypocrisy coupled with posturing and grandstanding.

Zuma did it for money because he has already received pledges of financial support from Western quarters.

It was reported towards the end of September that Zuma criticised Thabo Mbeki in a CNN interview, saying the former president acted outside government and party directives.

Zuma was part of the government his administration is now criticising.

He also headed the South African National Aids Council during Mbeki's reign.

ANC policies on Aids have failed. Those familiar with the history of the science of the virus will know that the definition of the disease and causative agent changed about twice.

The explanation of the origin of the disease was also scientifically untenable.

There is also the harping on the Harvard School of Public Health's "damning report that revealed that 330000 lives were lost because of Mbeki and Manto Tshabalala-Msimang's failure to provide antiretroviral drugs between 2000 and 2005".

There is no shred of evidence supporting such a claim.

Some organisations have called on Mbeki to apologise or be charged with genocide. Apologise for what? Mbeki is not a buffoon. He will not apologise.

On genocide, there are no crazy lawmakers who would listen to such a baseless case that rests on unfounded allegations.
