Affectionately known as Ma Chanza, a Best Dish winner in 2006 and 2007, Chanza again scooped the top prize with her innovative Surprise Portobello mushroom dish.
The judges were unanimous in their decision to crown her the 2009 winner. According to Tumi Sebopa, one of the judges, Chanza's dish showcased the fabulous versatility of the mushroom both as a vegetarian main dish and spectacular side dish.
Her dish consisted of big Portabello mushrooms deliciously stuffed with a selection of colourful vegetables with added flavour from a sprinkling of Parmesan and served with small, perfectly grilled kingklip fillets.
She received a trophy, Pick n Pay Shopping vouchers to the value of R50000 and a selection of cookery courses from the SA Chefs' Association's Centre of Excellence to the value of R2280.
Mary Khoza of Keithlometse Catering took second place with her Stuffed mushroom dish and Ponki Missouri of Harambee B&B came third with her Mushroom and maotwana curry.
