THE father of Atlegang Phalane, the toddler who was shot dead by a cop last month after mistaking the pipe he was holding for a gun, has been arrested.
The man was arrested during a morning raid at his house in Klipfontein View Ext 2, Midrand, yesterday.
Police spokesperson Inspector Kym Cloete said: "Police raided the man's residence at about 2am yesterday. He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm that was linked to a July robbery in Randburg.
"Police are also investigating a link between him and a robbery that took place in Midrand in October."
He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and a possible link to the two house robberies.
He was first arrested last month with his brother-in-law Peter Monaisa. They were arrested by the cop who had earlier shot Atlegang.
The two were charged with murder, but the case against the father was provisionally withdrawn and Monaisa was later released on bail.
Three-year-old Atlegang was shot and killed by Constable Seila Shadrack Malaka outside the same house on November 7. Malaka is out on bail and is expected to appear in the Thembisa magistrate's court on December 21.
Malaka has claimed that he thought the pipe Atlegang was holding was a gun.
Police had said the occupants of the car in which Atlegang was a passenger were suspects in the Randburg murder and robbery case.
