A METRO police officer who allegedly ran a security company was arrested yester day for defeating the ends of justice, Johannesburg police said.

A METRO police officer who allegedly ran a security company was arrested yester day for defeating the ends of justice, Johannesburg police said.

Inspector Xoli Mbele said the man's arrest followed the arrest of four security guards in Johannesburg central on Wednesday for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

"The suspects told police that they worked for BLP security company, which belonged to a metro police officer," Mbele said.

"It was alleged that the officer gave them the firearms every morning and took them back when they knocked off."

Police had on Wednesday received information about the four guards, who were immediately arrested at a Pick n Pay. supermarket

Police recovered four firearms. Two of the firearms belong to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, while one belongs to Good Giants security company and one to someone staying in Diepkloof, Soweto.

Police also seized two hand radios and a bulletproof vest.

The 46-year-old officer and the four security guards are all expected to appear in court soon. - Sapa
