This after Magistrate Thomas Nhleko rejected Zulu's bid to have the charges dropped.

Zulu's lawyer Advocate Thabani Masuku had lodged the application on the basis that the State had a weak case.

Turning the application down, Nhleko said that the state had a strong case.

While making the ruling, some of Zulu's friends in the public gallery grumbled in disbelief against the ruling.

Zulu, a close friend of national police commissioner Bheki Cele, faces two charges of culpable homicide after a hit-and-run accident in March last year.

His BMW X5 was involved in an accident with a Mitsubishi double-cab bakkie carrying members of the Soul's Harbour Ministries Church.

Two members of the church were killed while 10 were injured.

Although Zulu denies the charges, he has admitted he had not registered the luxury vehicle.

The state alleges that Zulu was the driver of the car which jumped a red robot and smashed into the back of the other vehicle.

Meanwhile, the Utrecht magistrate's court yesterday postponed the bail application by former eNdumeni municipality mayor Thandeka Nukani, boyfriend Bongani Shangase and driver Peter Khumalo, to December 9.

The three are facing attempted murder charges relating to an incident when a Waterval Prison inmate allegedly received a bribe of R2500 to kill Nukani's nephew, Siyabonga Nukani, who is serving 20 years in jail for his role in the 2007 murder of ANC councillor Grishen Bujram.

Siyabonga Nukani has since turned State witness in the Bujram case in which his aunt still faces charges. She will appear in court next year.

Khumalo is expected to appear in the Dundee magistrate's court today to face a corruption charge relating to R50000 belonging to a co-operative that went missing.
