Chilemba dines with president

TRIPLE championship holder Isaac Chilemba, the ABU super middleweight, WBC International and WBO Africa light heavyweight titlist, and his manager Jodi Solomons will dine with Malawi president Bingu Wa Mutharika this week.

TRIPLE championship holder Isaac Chilemba, the ABU super middleweight, WBC International and WBO Africa light heavyweight titlist, and his manager Jodi Solomons will dine with Malawi president Bingu Wa Mutharika this week.

This rare opportunity is reward for Chilemba's achievements this year.

This good-looking Malawian fighter who is based in Johannesburg won the three belts this year.

"Golden Boy" from Blantyre bettered the fight record of Chikoya Mphande, who was the first Malawian boxer to win the ABU belt in 1995.

He blasted Edward Kokou Dick in two rounds in Zambia for the junior middleweight strap.

Chilemba, 22, and his attractive female manager, Solomons, jetted off to Malawi last night.

Chilemba told Sowetan before their departure that getting an invitation from Wa Mutharika made him feel empowered.

"It will encourage me to continue being a good ambassador for my country in South Africa," said Chilemba who made his professional debut here under trainer Nick Durandt.

Together they chalked up 12 wins (8 KOs) and a defeat which they later avenged against Namibian Wilberforce Shihepo.

Chilemba left Durandt and teamed up with Colin Nathan who guided him to the three belts, which he secured with victories over Ugandan David Kitiooke and France-based Congolese Doudou Ngumbu in June and October.

Chilemba bolted Nathan's stable last month and joined Elias Tshabalala.

"I am doing well with my new trainer Elias Tshabalala.

"Watch me in February." he said in his parting shot.
