Zuma has too many flops

OUR president, Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Mhlanganyelwa Zuma, is moving from one flop to another.

OUR president, Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Mhlanganyelwa Zuma, is moving from one flop to another.

His latest are the appointment of Menzi Simelane as head of the NPA, his quoting of wrong mortality figures and public praise for Julius Malema as having the capacity and qualities to become president.

Amid these flops he appointed Mac Maharaj as a member of his team to solve the Zimbabwean question.

Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Monthlanthe would not have appointed Maharaj knowing his credibility was tainted.

Maharaj is also very close to Morgan Tsvangarai's friends Blade Nzimande and Zwelinzima Vavi, so will he be impartial?

The other flops was Zuma's announcement that he would create 500000 new jobs when 900000 decent jobs had already been lost.

He promised he would be tougher on Robert Mugabe but we hear no loud diplomacy.

He made a promise that pregnant teenagers would be sent to exclusive but remote schools.

Human rights and many youth movements, except Julius Malema, were shocked about such an unwise statement.

Zuma promised the taxi industry that bus rapid transit (BRT) would be halted. He allowed a minister, Sbu Ndebele, to accept a R1million Mercedes-Benz as a gift. He made empty promises to stop the cargate scandal.

He sang Umshini Wami to the excitement of the masses but now complains about too much violence on TV.

He made bizarre statements in court on Aids infection.

He made derogatory remarks about gays and lesbians on Heritage Day. The Constitution refers to a commissioner of police, he wants Bheki Cele called a "general".

Many, many flops, Mr President. Soon your kingmakers will be saying "one term, one President". Parties like Cope will say "we told you Zuma's populism is not sustainable".

The appointment of Simelane and males only (Jeff Radebe, Judge Sandile Ngcobo, Cele, Nathi Mthethwa and Fikile Mbalula) in the crime and justice departments is a shame.

The nation has been betrayed. A "people's president" has disappointed me and the nation.
