YCL slams ANCYL over support for 'bunglers'

THE Young Communist League has criticised the ANC Youth League's tendency to defend "incompetent" leaders because of the colour of their skin.

THE Young Communist League has criticised the ANC Youth League's tendency to defend "incompetent" leaders because of the colour of their skin.

This comes after the ANCYL strongly supported former Eskom chief executive officer Jacob Maroga, saying he had never resigned but had been pushed by individuals with a racist agenda.

The agenda was allegedly driven by former Eskom chairman Bobby Godsell. Godsell resigned, accusing the government of having failed to deal with the Maroga issue.

YCL deputy secretary Khaye Nkwanyana charged that the ANCYL had failed to provide proof that Maroga was targeted because he is an African.

He said it had also failed to prove that former Eskom chairperson Bobby Godsell was a racist.

"The Jacob Maroga issue is a case in point. No argument has been advanced in terms of his performance as a basis of the defence for him against the board's position."

Nkwanyana defended Godsell, saying Maroga's turn- around strategy for the power utility had failed to address its challenges.

Nkwanyana also lashed out at the ANCYL's defence of University of Free State vice-chancellor Jonathan Jansen, whom he referred to as a "classical coconut".
