WITH their colourful costumes, canary-like voices and impressive stage presence, Joyous Celebration will bless the people of Mpuma-langa when they perform there on December 12 at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
The group, which has grown by leaps and bounds over the past 13 years, started out as a platform for aspirant artists who wanted a career in music, but had no easy access to producers because of their location.
It recruited heavily in KwaZulu-Natal, which explains why there is a predominance of members from that province.
It did not end there. Many artists subsequently auditioned, recruited and put in the spotlight have gone on to establish successful solo careers.
The likes of Margaret Motsage, Swazi Dlamini, Nokukhanya Dlamini, Nonhlanhla and Thabo Mdluli, Ntokozo Mbambo, Sabatha Masoka and Keke Phoofolo spring to mind.
The brainchild of Jabu Hlongwane, Mthunzi Namba and Lindelani Mkhize, they have been proactive, making the outfit a flagship project. They have remained active, producing one electrifying album after another in the 13-year period of their existence.
They have also managed to deliver magnetic collaborations with the late Vuyo Mokoena, Sipho Makhabane, Rebecca Malope and Avante.
As a result all the members have travelled extensively in and out of the country in spite of their huge number.
It is this stunning choreography, beautiful, moulded and well-trained voices, colourful costumes and razzmatazz they are taking to Nelspruit that makes you forget you are watching a gospel outfit.
Indeed, their efforts have made this genre extremely accessible, something attested to by their huge following and sold-out shows.
