A POPULAR gospel musician died after briefly appearing at a 16 Days of Activism Against Abuse of Women and Children event on Saturday.

The imbizo had to be stopped for hours after 45-year-old Winnie Mmadi collapsed at the Helenskraal Sports Ground, near Marble Hall.

Limpopo police spokesperson Mohale Ramatseba said: "We were all shocked to hear that she collapsed just before she could do what she loved most - to sing."

Ramatseba said Mmadi went on stage, picked up the microphone but then collapsed. "She was taken to the clinic but died on arrival."

Speaking on behalf of musicians, bandleader Forsta Teanet said Mmadi had been an inspiration to every musician in the province.
