Purely for love

OFFICIALS of the South African Football Association must still be shell-shocked by the unexpected action of new president Kirsten Nematandani.

OFFICIALS of the South African Football Association must still be shell-shocked by the unexpected action of new president Kirsten Nematandani.

Without telling him they deposited R30000 as "salary" into his bank account in September.

But chief executive Raymond Hack could easily have fallen off his chair when Nematandani told him: "I have reversed the transaction because elected officials are not supposed to get a salary."

Nematandani does not think this is in line with corporate governance.

This at a time when we are still wondering why some officials - also elected - were paid at least R7million each for "winning the country the right to stage the Fifa 2010 World Cup".

Now we all know that Nematandani is really in it for the love of the game.
