Plays put crime in spotlight

TOP actors will rub shoulders with aspirants during the Free State leg of the popular Stop Crime Drama Festival in ThabaNchu on December 5 and 6.

Boosted by a grant from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, this youth-oriented anti-crime arts and culture showcase is the brainchild of theatre, television and radio show producers Martin Koboekae and Jullian Seleke-Mokoto for their organisation, Dramatists Against Crime, and is a youth development project of the Sowetan and Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation.

Several plays with an anti-crime message will be staged at the festival. Participating groups stand a chance to win prizes in the following categories; Best Production, Best Script, Best Director, Best Actor and Most Promising Production.

Reigning champion in the best production category, Cell Number 4 by award winning Tsotsi movie star Presley Chweneyagae will be among the guest productions.

Other popular artists who are due to present theatre workshops and motivational talks during the festival include television soapies stars Peter Mashigo of Mponeng fame, Zone 14's Carol Behane, and Tina Mnumzana, who stars in e-TV's Rhythm City.

Generations actor Seputla Sebogodi will present a gospel music show with his band, G Movement.
