manto has 'bunch of liver tests'

FORMER health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang is "fine but tired" in a Joburg hospital, a family spokesperson confirmed yesterday.

FORMER health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang is "fine but tired" in a Joburg hospital, a family spokesperson confirmed yesterday.

Tshabalala-Msimang's daughter Zuki Tshabalala said her mother was "in (hospital) for a bunch of tests".

Tshabalala would not comment on her mother's condition before she was admitted to Folateng, the private wing of Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

"She is fine but a bit tired from all the tests," Tshabalala said.

She said she was "not aware" whether her mother would need another liver transplant but the family was awaiting results of tests conducted at the hospital on her.

"I may be her daughter but she hasn't given me permission to talk about her health. It's a private matter," said Tshabalala.

This follows reports yesterday that Tshabalala-Msimang might need another liver after being admitted to hospital two weeks ago because of "issues relating to the first transplant".

Tshabalala-Msimang had a liver transplant in 2007 and suffered criticism over allegations that she had jumped the queue.

She is allegedly being prepared for a second liver transplant amid fears that the donated liver was being rejected by her body.
