SOWETAN is doing a good job informing us about important issues such as that of Scopa chairperson Themba Godi asking President Jacob Zuma to recall ambassador to Botswana Ngconde Balfour (Sowetan, November 24) .

Godi is quoted as saying: "I am still perplexed at how Balfour can continue to represent South Africa as an ambassador when he so seriously let the nation down."

Unless he suffers from selective amnesia, Godi shouldn't be surprised because as correctional services minister Balfour granted a dubious medical parole to Zuma's former co-accused and financial adviser Schabir Shaik. It is now payback time for Balfour.

Doesn't Godi understand how the ANC works? As chairperson of Scopa Godi himself swept the rotten-to-the-core arms deal scandal under the carpet.

There were also media reports that Correctional Services Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula had sought to keep the special investigation unit report implicating Balfour and others in the prisons corruption under wraps.

Why wouldn't she want to do that when her brother, Siviwe Mapisa, is also implicated?

Zuma should have asked Mapisa-Nqakula to recuse herself and allow another cabinet minister take over the probe and handle the Special Investigating Unit report.

Zuma doesn't take corruption seriously because he himself was facing corruption charges.

He just pays lip service to the fight against corruption. He has already failed the test.
