Mosimane was talking to Sowetan after the draw for this year's Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge where football legends like former Bafana midfielders John "Shoes" Moshoeu and Tebogo Moloi were in attendance. The draw was conducted at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto.
"It's important for our youngsters to take part in these games. We never had these opportunities and my message to the youngsters would be to seize them and use them for their benefit," Mosimane said.
He also revealed that he spends most of his time in the festive season at these tournaments shopping for new talent.
Moshoeu emphasised the significance of a healthy lifestyle, saying it is the reason he is still going strong at his age.
"I also want to add my voice in encouraging youngsters to live a healthy lifestyle and maintain it throughout their careers," he said.
"We have talent in abundance in this country and we will be happy to see the young players represent their country in different national teams in the future."
The matches will start from December 6 to 27 at Safa Development Centre in Pimville, Soweto. Forty clubs from around the country will compete in the main event and there will also 24 Under-17 clubs and a further eight ladies' sides in other divisions. The tourney has produced the likes of Thulani Serero, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Teko Modise. - Sapa-DPA
