MAY I take this opportunity to welcome the new governor of the South African Reserve Bank Gill Marcus and applaud the sterling work done by Tito Mboweni who, against all odds, managed to stabilise our economy despite the global economic meltdown.
He has indeed put our country on the map in terms of investments.
My advice to Marcus is not to let trade unions or the ANC alliance partners to interfere with her economic thinking. We all know Cosatu was hellbent on pressurising Mboweni to cut interest rates even though that was not going to be a sound economic decision.
The Julius Malemas of this world even went to the extent of saying Mboweni will not get a "nice deployment" after his tenure at the Bank. I hope Marcus continues to guard the legacy created by Mboweni in improving our economy.
