Eskom beefs up leadership

ESKOM yesterday announced three senior appointments.

ESKOM yesterday announced three senior appointments.

Paul O'Flaherty was appointed finance director from January 1, Dan Marokane managing director of primary energy from January 12, and Bhabhalazi Bulunga managing director of human resources from February 1.

O'Flaherty is currently the chief financial officer of Al Naboodah Construction Group LLC in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, which he joined in July 2007.

Marokane has been with PetroSA for 11 years. He was appointed to his current position as vice-president in the operations division of PetroSA in March 2007.

Eskom said he was director of PetroSA Nigeria, PetroSA Europe and Brass Exploration, Nigeria. He was responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Gas-to-Liquids Refinery in Mosselbay and the three exploration and production offshore units - the F-A gas platform and the Orca and Glas Dowr oil production vessels.

The power utility said Bulunga was currently general manager of human resources at South African Airways, which he joined in March 2007 after a stint at BHPBilliton Ltd.

Eskom said the three were joining the company"at an opportune time as we execute the company's capacity expansion plans to address the country's electricity supply needs for the future".

Eskom's board, however, is still without a chairman after the resignation of Bobby Godsell. It is also without a chief executive following the controversial departure of Jacob Maroga. - Sapa
