THE department of education in Limpopo has already completed delivering stationery and text books to all schools in preparation for the 2010 academic year.
Communications manager in the department Cebile Khanye said a total of 4015 schools already had their furniture and books delivered by last Sunday.
She said R291million has been set aside to address the shortage and supply of books to all schools in the province.
She said the books were supplied to circuit offices, schools with good storage facilities and to departmental warehouses.
Some schools would have to collect the books from designated points while others had them delivered, she said.
Khanye said the department also prioritised the purchasing of school furniture for all schools without it. Tables, chairs and desks to the value of R53,7million had already been purchased, she said.
Education MEC Namane Dickson Masemola said the objective of the department is to make sure that learning and teaching start in earnest on the first day of the schools reopening.
