THE Miriam Tlali Reading and Book Club, a legacy programme of the South African Literary Awards, celebrates the legendary author's 76th birthday at Xarra Books in Newtown tomorrow from 2pm.
Poetry, music and dialogue will be the main vehicles of the event.
The club was launched on June 20 this year, with creative writing items that included discussions about Tlali's novel, Amandla,themed: The Meaning of Amandla:Miriam Tlali and the Burden of History.
The club still invites writers, readers and the general public to discuss books and topical literary issues and take part in other interactive platforms to promote the culture of writing and reading.
Tlali is a scholar, novelist, short-story writer and struggle activist. Among her novels are Muriel At the Metropolitan, Amandla and Footprints in the Quag.
She has received many awards internationally and domestically, including the South African Lifetime Achievement Literary Award in 2005.-Victor Mecoamere
