POLICE in Nebo have arrested three employees of Morkels Furnitures in connection with the theft of furniture worth R260000.

It is alleged the three employees reported to the local police that their delivery truck had been hijacked at Monotwaneng village in Nebo, Limpopo, last Saturday morning.

The truck was later found abandoned near a cemetery - about two kilometres from the scene of the alleged hijacking.

"After intensive police investigations, the three Morkels Furnitures employees confessed yesterday that they had in fact faked the hijacking," Limpopo police spokesperson Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said.

Ramatseba said the suspects led the police to Riverside village in Nebo, where the furniture was found hidden in a house belonging to a relative of the driver of the delivery truck.

He said the owner of the house was also arrested for keeping stolen goods.

Ramatseba also said that in Sekhukhune, three women at Riverside village, who bought some of the furniture from the men, were also arrested for buying stolen goods.

The seven suspects will appear in the Nebo magistrate's court today pending further policeinvestigations.

Ramatseba warned community members to refrain from buying goods suspected to have been stolen because it was a criminal offence to do so.
