HIP-HOP dancer Darren Rajbal is the toast of his home town after being voted the most talented performer in the grande finale of SA's Got Talent on SABC2 last week.
Rajbal, 19, from Mayville in Durban, arrived back home on Saturday to a hero's welcome. The deaf teen took home the R250000 top prize.
The Grade 11 pupil at the Fulton School for the Deaf in Durban wants to complete schooling before pursuing his dancing career.
Hundreds of fans from around townships in Durban as well as his schoolmates were on hand to welcome him.
Nomzamo Thuli from Umlazi said: "He is a role model to me and my friends. Imagine the impact on deaf people."
Rajbal says his biggest aim is to put deaf people on the map and he "wants them recognised as normal people".
His stepfather, Ashwin Ramnath, said Rajbal had aspirations of opening his own dance school.
"We are considering putting him in a college next year that will be appropriate for him as he has said he wants to pursue a career in arts."
Through sponsors and investors he hopes to help build a community hall for his neighbourhood.
