Liquor store owner robbed

POLICE are looking for a group of six armed men who robbed the owner of a liquor store as he was on the way to a bank in Northgate shopping centre in Johannesburg on Saturday.

POLICE are looking for a group of six armed men who robbed the owner of a liquor store as he was on the way to a bank in Northgate shopping centre in Johannesburg on Saturday.

"At about 11.15am, a man and his employee went to the Northgate mall to deposit money. As they were walking towards the centre, a group of six armed men began shooting at them," said Inspector Karen Jacobs.

Earlier reports indicated the shootout had happened inside the shopping centre, but police confirmed the gun fight took place in a parking lot.

Jacobs said the men took cover behind a parked car and one of them fired shots back at the suspects.

"They said there were too many of them and stopped shooting, the men then took the bag of money and fled in two vehicles," she said.

A number of vehicles were damaged in the shootout. No one was injured.

"The men are traumatised. No arrests have been made," Jacobs said. - Sapa
