VILLAGERS in GaMaria near Marapyane are happy after the demotion of a "lazy" school principal in the area.
Yesterday the Mpumalanga education department demoted Sisasa Frans Kanyane, a principal at Ditlhokwe Primary School, for laziness and frequently absconding. Kanyane was demoted to an ordinary teacher.
Provincial education department spokesperson Jasper Zwane said Kanyane, who headed the school for 16 years, was moved to a neighboring school in Moepi.
"Kanyane appeared before a disciplinary hearing and was found guilty of misconduct and subsequently transferred to another school," he said.
He said in a month Kanyane allegedly reported for work only three times.
"And on those few days he knocked off at about 10am while the school finishes at 2pm," a teacher at the school said.
In 2007 he won a case against the department when he was charged for absconding from duty for 100 days in a year without proper reasons.
But Kanyane denied he had been demoted.
"This matter is far from over and as I speak with you it is in the department's legal section.
