EVERYONE must read the article by Kader Asmal that appeared in your paper on November 2009. It must be read not so much for being comprehensive, but for what it moves against.
This is the kind of rigour South Africa needs to move forward.
But more importantly, Asmal provides a critique that is intellectually honest, whose analysis is not afraid of its own conclusions. There is moreover no accusatory tone against its subject. It is pure logic and reason. In South Africa today there are no longer people our society can rely on for being bold, for saying not what others want to hear, but for saying what this country needs.
For that I commend Asmal for his intellectual courage.
