Enyonini is definitely one of the best traditional groups around, deservedly earning a nomination in this year's SABC Crown Gospel awards, which take place at Durban's International Convention Centre next Sunday.
Though this kind of music has not been that "fashionable" over the past few years, the fact remains that Zion music is selling well and has a huge following.
Enyonini will be up against some top groups, however, competing in the best amaZion category against Paradise Catholic, Galathia and Trust in Christ. Galathia and Trust have top music profiles and sell well too.
Comprising 30 members, Enyonini is a church choir from the Enyonini Zion Church, founded in 1905, which is one of the oldest Zion churches in South Africa.
Another top category is "best male artist" where veterans such as Benjamin Dube, Sipho Makhabane, Keke and Israel Mosehla will be the hot favourites.
Promising gospel singer Fikile Mlomo will compete against Elias Denda, YMC Band and Banele Mahlangu in the "best newcomer" category.
Gospel divas Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Winnie Mashaba, Makgarebe and Zodwa will be up against each other in the "best female artist" category.
Zanele Mbokazi, founder of the World Gospel PowerHouse, says: "The awards have grown.
"We have received double the number of entries compared to last year's successful event.
"Because we provide the perfect platform for unknown faces in the industry, this year's entries show a real depth and richness in local gospel music."
