parreira drops khenyeza

REAPPOINTED Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has shown he will not tolerate ill-discipline by axing striker Mabhuti Khenyeza for failing to report for national duty on time.

REAPPOINTED Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has shown he will not tolerate ill-discipline by axing striker Mabhuti Khenyeza for failing to report for national duty on time.

The talented but sometimes temperamental Mamelodi Sundowns striker missed Sunday's 8pm deadline to report for camp at a leading hotel in Illovo.

Khenyeza has since been replaced by Richard "Kimberley Express" Henyekane, who was surprisingly snubbed from the original squad to play against Japan and Jamaica.

Addressing an impromptu media briefing, Bafana Bafana media officer Matlhomola Morake said Khenyeza was dropped after all attempts to locate him were unsuccessful.

"We tried calling him several times on his cellphone but he did not answer, he did not even return our calls.

"He trained with his team this morning (yesterday).

"He came here for a meeting with the technical staff but he could not provide a reason for his failure to report for camp as scheduled. The coaches were not impressed with his behaviour, hence the replacement," Morake said.

This is not the first time Khenyeza has gone AWOL after being called up by Bafana.

He did the same thing in June on the eve of the kickoff of the Fifa Confederations Cup and later explained that he had family commitments to attend to.

Yesterday, Khenyeza was accompanied by Trott Moloto, Sundowns' chief scout, to the media briefing where the former Lamontville Golden Arrows, Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town striker said he was not feeling well.

"I'm not well, I have an injury," Khenyeza said.

Morake also announced that defender Siboniso Gaxa was out due to injury and has been replaced by the luckiest player in the country, Lance Davids.

The well-travelled Davids has often been called up by the national coaches as a replacement despite the fact that he has not been playing regularly at his club.
