THE trial of the woman accused of killing her husband is causing problems for her family.

Dikeledi Kimbie told Sowetan that since she began standing trial for the murder of her husband Zongezile, relations with her family had soured.

"My daughter Lorraine Mohopeloa has been kicked out of her house by her husband. He fears my daughter will kill him. My sister's husband has also left her in their house," Dikeledi said.

Mohopeloa said: "Our problems started in 2007 after my mother's arrest. My husband accused me of planning to kill him."

She said her in-laws also accused her of planning to kill their son.

Kimbie said: "Things that are being said about me in court are lies. How can I kill my husband who loved, cared and respected me? I did not hire a person to kill him either."

Kimbie's former lover, Nehemia Sithole, is serving a life sentence for the murder after he confessed and pleaded guilty.

Kimbie confirmed to Sowetan that she and Sithole were lovers but claimed they only fell in love after her husband's death.

She said Sithole did not kill Kimbie but only confessed because he wanted to frame her for a murder she had not committed.

Judge Margaret Victor did not buy her story and sentenced her to life in prison on Friday.
