Inactive Benni finally rejoins Bafana today

TRUSTED but inactive striker Benni McCarthy returns to Bafana Bafana today after a lengthy absence to feature in the two friendlies against Japan and Jamaica.

TRUSTED but inactive striker Benni McCarthy returns to Bafana Bafana today after a lengthy absence to feature in the two friendlies against Japan and Jamaica.

"We have not heard anything to the contrary about Benni and all the other selected players," said Sipho Nkumane, Bafana Bafana manager last night.

McCarthy is expected to touch down at OR Tambo International Airport this morning along with other foreign-based players.

They include captain Aaron "Mbazo" Mokoena, Bernard Parker, Rowen Fernandez, Kermit Erasmus and Dyalon Claasen.

Selected players will today undergo medical tests led by the team's new doctor Ntlhopi Mogoro after the popular Ephraim Nematswerani was left in the cold.

"We want to ensure we have a clean bill of health in the team. We have divided them into two [training] groups, one in the morning and the other afternoon," said Nkumane.

Bafana will start doing ball work at Rand Stadium tomorrow at 11am, the first one under re-appointed coach Carlos Alberto Parreira.

They play Japan in Port Elizabeth on Saturday and Jamaica in Bloemfontein on November 17.
