A VEREENIGING woman who conspired with her boyfriend to kill her husband has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

A VEREENIGING woman who conspired with her boyfriend to kill her husband has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The two-week trial into the murder of Zongezile Kimbie ended in tears when his widow, Dikeledi Kimbie, 40, was found guilty of his murder in the Vereeniging circuit court on Friday.

The boyfriend, Nehemia Sithole, is already serving a life term after he confessed to the murder early this year.

Friends and relatives of Kimbie burst into tears when Judge Margaret Victor passed sentence.

Dikeledi was convicted after she and her lover orchestrated the death of her husband on March 2 2006 in their Sebokeng yard.

Sithole stabed Kimbie to death when he arrived from work.

Dikeledi also stabbed Kimbie after Sithole had left.

Sithole had earlier testified that Dikeledi had phoned him after her husband's death.

He said Dikeledi had ordered him to kill her husband so that they could live together in her house.

Judge Victor said: "You have betrayed your husband who loved and cared for you. Being a mother of three children you did the act in the quest for a sexual price from Sithole."

The judge said Kimbie had a sacred right to feel safe, which the two had ignored when they killed him in his yard.

"It was late at night and he might have felt uneasy on the street when he returned from work only to be faced by a brutal attack in his yard.

"On his attempt to flee into his house you (Dikeledi) pushed him out and he fell and was further stabbed. You did not show any remorse," Judge Victor said .

Kimbie's father, Alec, said that since his son's death he had not found closure. He said it was going to be hard to forgive Dikeledi.

"Forgiving her won't bring my son back. He was a goodhearted man who loved his wife and children dearly."
