SEVERAL officials of Athletics South Africa in the provinces yesterday told Sascoc where to get off after the Olympic body suspended ASA boss Leonard Chuene and the entire board last week.
The officials have also vowed to "die" for Chuene who, they say, is being victimised by Sascoc because of his stance on transformation in athletics.
Sascoc on Thursday suspended Chuene and the entire ASA over its handling of Caster Semenya gender verification tests.
Sowetan was inundated with calls from angry ASA affiliates who accused Sascoc of having an agenda against Chuene.
They said the Olympic body "does not have authority to suspend Chuene and the ASA board".
They believe the whole issue was part of Sascoc's bid to oust Chuene.
"Whatever is happening here has nothing to do with athletics but a concerted effort by Sascoc to remove our president because he believes in transformation. I will stand by Chuene," said a fuming Athletics Griqualand West president Loretta Marthinus.
Said Central Gauteng Athletics president Snowy Matthews: "What Sascoc has done is illegal. Where did they get the powers to suspend Chuene and the board.
"Most of those trying to oust Chuene are white officials who are unhappy because he promotes transformation."
