'Donating blood saves lives'

KWAZULU-NATAL health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo has called on young people to donate blood and to recruit their friends to become donors.

KWAZULU-NATAL health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo has called on young people to donate blood and to recruit their friends to become donors.

Speaking in the legislature yesterday Dhlomo said the greatest and most valuable gift people could give to those in need is blood. He said some people's lives can be decided by the availability of blood.

"Many people find themselves in these unenviable situations as a result of conditions such as cancer, road accidents and complications related to giving birth," he said.

"We should all be proud of our dedicated and selfless, voluntary donors who regularly donate blood to save the lives of others.

Dhlomo urged people aged between 16 and 65 who are in good health to donate blood as regularly as possible.
