A LIMPOPO businesswoman is saddled with a huge bill of alcoholic beverages that were provided for the congratulatory party for Soviet Lekganyane on his appointment as MEC for local government and housing.
Ipfi Maumela, co-owner of Maroola Lounge, a popular joint in Dalmada, Polokwane, says the ANC Youth League has been giving her the run-around when she approaches them to settle their account.
The function was held on May 20.
Maumela says creditors had been giving her sleepless nights because they wanted the money for the liquor from her.
Despite numerous promises, she says the ANCYL has failed to pay the bill.
According to Maumela, she was approached by the league's provincial chairperson Lehlogonolo Masoga to host the function.
She says Masoga promised to pay the total bill of R86000 after the function was over.
But Masoga has allegedly been avoiding Maumela's calls every time she enquires about the payment.
Maumela says she had since stopped calling Masoga.
"When I phone him he would not pick up my calls," she said.
"And when I hide my phone number he would then pick it up and tell so many stories."
Maumela says she is worried about being blacklisted by the chainstore that supplied her with the liquor for the party because she has failed to pay them for more than five months.
"I had bought the liquor on credit from Trade Centre and promised to pay off the account as soon as I had received the payment from the ANCYL," said Maumela.
"But now I'm frustrated because no one (at the ANCYL) seems to care."
She says she had organised liquor, food, performing artists and their accommodation for the MEC's function.
And for all her efforts, the ANCYL paid only R60000 and promised to come back with the balance, which they never did.
"I'm tired of the ANCYL's empty promises because my name is being dragged through the mud," she said angrily.
Approached for comment, the league's provincial secretary Goodman Mitileni yesterday acknowledged the outstanding balance for the function's bill.
"We are currently having financial challenges and are working on securing the funds in order to pay Maumela as soon as we can," Mitileni said.
